Hi guys, another fine day, another great book called American As Paneer Pie. I personally love the book and even though the main character is Indian, it is not completely like an Indian book. Like the title name, the book is American as paneer pie. Here is the summary below:
Lekha Divekar feels like she has two separate lives of herself; School Lekha and Home Lekha. Being an Indian Desi girl she’s also teased a little and having a bindi sized birthmark right in the middle of her forehead did not help. When a girl about Lekha’s age moves into her neighborhood named Avantika, Lekha is super excited because Avantika is Desi, too! Finally there will be someone who gets it. But when Avantika speaks, Lekha realizes she has an accent. Avantika was new to this country. Not at all like Lekha, Avantika defends herself if she is bullied and displays her culture wherever she proudly, not remaining silent.. Then when Lekha hears about social crimes and injustice she is scared that the crimes would happen to her family. After that, elections for choosing senators start and one of the candidate is against non-violence and no social crimes. With that a disaster strikes at Lekha’s house which left her with two options. Find her voice before it’s too late or stay silent.
The author of this book is Supriya Kelkar and I think the book is good to read for anyone. The book teaches on how to stand up for yourself (speaking up), how dangerous social crimes are and staying confident. I have learnt a lot from this book, including on how to make paneer (LOL). I highly encourage you guys to read this book. There are even some recipes (other than paneer) that I would love to make. Thank you for reading and see you guys next time! Bye!
