How to make a Clay Ganesha
Ganesha (Ga – ney – shaw) : Hindu Elephant Faced God. Also know as Vinayaka (Vi – naa – ya – ka)
I am making a clay Ganesha for a Hindu Indian Festival called Vinayaka Chathurthi. Many buy ready made Ganesha from the store but I am going to make a eco- friendly clay Ganesha.
I have detailed below how to make so you can make one too.
What you need?
- Clay
- Water
- Paints (Optional)
- Potter’s Wheel (Optional)
Procedure
Before you make Ganesha you need small seat for Ganesha to sit on. Make a squared clay as below. Make it as even as possible.
Make two balls. One very big ball and a small ball. Put small ball on top of big ball as shown below.
Make sure you put these balls on a potter’s wheel at this time if you have one.
Now make elephant ear shapes and attach it to the smaller ball with toothpicks/small sticks.
Make legs that are plumpy at thighs and skinnier calf and foot. Attach one leg as to touch the floor and the other leg crossed below the first leg.
Make a trunk and attach it to the center of the face.
Make arms, hands thinner compared to the body. Stick arms to the body with toothpicks.
Make round eyes and tilak.
Make two tusks. One broken, one full. Attach tusks and secure with toothpicks again.
Make the crown with four rings and one ball.
Make two circular arm bands with a hole inthe middle of it.
Make cylindrical pillows, a very small ball(s),bowl full of tiny balls, mice (I made five).
Make the neklace with two pieces as shown.
Make the snake body and head attach it together and put on the bottom of his stomach as shown.
Make the designs on the body, ears, hands, and arms as shown.
Make Yagnopaveetham using thread (Sacred covering on the body) and put on Ganesha.
Paint Ganesha as you like. Make sure your Ganesha is as eco-friendly as possible.
